Hair colours that suit every Indian skin tone

Choosing a flattering, natural-looking hair colour can be difficult. This is primarily due to the abundance of contradictory information on what looks good on whom. Colorist assumptions complicate matters even more: "Light colours look good on light skin, and dark colours look good on dark skin." So we decided it was time to dispel some myths, provide accurate information, and share what we know about hair colours that will complement your complexion without appearing unnatural or wig-like.

First, determine your skin's tone or undertone.

Skin tone has little to do with light and dark, and everything to do with undertones, which, regrettably, have nothing to do with race. Skin tones for desi girls can range from golden to yellow to olive to red, and so on. As a result, you should choose an organic hair colour based on your undertones rather than whether you are pale, dusky, or "wheatish."

If you can't tell your undertone from your facial skin, take a vein test.

Examine your veins in natural light to see if they are blue or purple. If they are, you have a cool tone. If they are green, you have a warm complexion. If your veins appear to be green and purple in colour, you have neutral-warm undertones. You are neutral-cool if you have blue-green veins.

However, the vein test is not always reliable. So, experimenting with different foundations, lipsticks, jewellery, highlighters, and hair colour shades can help you determine your undertone.

As someone with yellow-olive undertones, for example, I appear washed out with red hair (more on that below). My MAC foundation shade is classified as NC (not cool). Gold jewellery, as well as gold-toned highlighters, look better on my skin. Chocolate browns, warm reds, and peachy nudes are the lipstick colours that compliment my skin tone. If you look closely at your most natural makeup purchases, you'll notice that they can help you decode your undertone.

"Flattering" hair colours are a myth because how you look afterward is determined by the undertone you want to emphasise.

Before we begin, keep in mind that there are no hard and fast rules about what someone looks good in. Take the statements "warm skin should avoid yellow hues" and "light brown will make your look darker" with a grain of salt. If you still want to be on the safe side, keep the following guidelines in mind.

To avoid looking washed out, most hair colorists recommend creating a contrast between your hair colour and complexion. This means you should choose a colour that contrasts with your skin's natural undertone. If your hair is too yellow, so is your skin.

Burgundy complements nearly every skin tone. Here's why:

You can't go wrong with this deep wine colour, which is a mix of red and purple tones. Indus valley Burgundy hair colour is on its way to becoming the new dark brown, thanks to the wide range of undertones it complements. It not only looks great on dusky skin, but it also flatters olive and yellow undertones. The most intriguing aspect is that this cool red is flattering on those with cool undertones. The problem is that frosty shades of platinum or cool blonde look great on olive skin tones, which make up the vast majority of our population, but these colours are extremely difficult to maintain. To keep such icy locks from turning yellow, use blue-based toners or purple shampoos. As a result, the blonde often fades quickly into brassy tones, which don't look good on our warm skin.
